A few months after the wedding, it was announced that Violetta was with child. The citizens of Vanitano-Umbreca were ecstatic and clamored for a boy. Only a few weeks later, however, the queen miscarried. Everyone took this as an omen of terrible things to come and wanted Violetta executed or exiled. But the king loved his wife dearly; even so, he recognized the importance of having a child as soon as possible.
Violetta became pregnant again a few months following the miscarriage. The baby was born as healthy as can be, but it was not the much hoped-for male heir. Instead, the royal family welcomed a beautiful girl, and the princess was named Isabel Gervaise Amandine Renate. James and Violetta loved their daughter very much (and Isabel had her father wrapped around her finger from the start), but they both knew that a son was what the people wanted.
