King Leopold VI ascended the throne of Grandilac under a cloud of suspicion. As the fifth son of King Leonard III he should never have been King, but fortunately for him his brothers all died young, childless... and under suspicious circumstances. He was mistrusted and feared from the start. When he came into power he replaced all of the old king's advisors, servants and all other manner of staff with men and women of his own choosing. One such advisor warned him that he did not have the respect of his subjects and to gain this he should start a family straight away to take the air of menace away from him. After all, everyone loves a family man, right? In order to start a family he needed a wife, which he soon found in the youngest daughter of the much revered Duke de Morville.
Gloriana de Morville was a free spirit, a woman with her whole life ahead of her. So why would she marry such a seemingly awful man? Her father was enticed with new roles in the Grand Parliament of Grandilac and a large estate to the north of the country, while she was blackmailed with threats on her beloved father's life.
Their unhappy marriage began in the Summer of that same year with an extravegant ceremony and the promise of an heir before the next year was through.
