LaCorten is a fifteen-month-old African American boy from Louisiana. He was taken from his biological mother when her mother reported her for giving LaCorten alcohol to put him to sleep. LaCorten's left leg is shorter than the right, making it difficult for him to walk. He is a happy little boy, but has trouble sleeping at night and often wakes up crying.
Samuel is an eight-year-old African American boy from Washington, DC. He was taken from his biological mother when she went to prison for multiple counts of second-degree murder when Samuel was five. Samuel was born with spastic diplegia Cerebral palsy, defined below. He is able to walk with a walker and take care of his own basic needs. Samuel is of average intelligence and performs on-target in third grade at school. He enjoys science, using a computer, and playing video games.
*Spastic Cerebral Palsy is the most common diagnosis. If your child’s CP is “spastic,” his muscles are rigid and jerky, and he has difficulty getting around. In spastic diplegia, the child’s leg and hip muscles are tight, and his legs cross at the knees, making it difficult to walk.
