Robert and Lisbeth now have no children left at home, but they are enjoying the many grandchildren that they have. Robert has been working extra hard in his law firm. When the stock market first crashed, Robert got lots of business. However, in the past few months people have realized that they won't get their money back, so they are reluctant to spend anything for Robert's services. Robert and Lisbeth have saved up some money, and they hope to ride out the depression by living on their savings. Robert still has some of his wealthy clients, but some of the middle class ones aren't paying. Lisbeth has been active in their local church helping out the most destitute people in Decatur and the surrounding areas. Dorothy, wife of the deceased Bobby North, got remarried in 1928. Her new husband, John Davis is the sheriff in a sizeable Oregon town. Dorothy, Ella, and Paul moved out to Oregon to live with John. John has a son from a previous marriage. Johnny is eight years old. He gets along well with Ella and Paul. Ella and Paul were upset to be separated from their cousins in Decatur, but they're adjusting to life in Oregon.Julia and Stephen are very busy raising their many children and working their farm. They've never had a whole lot of money, so the depression hasn't affected them all that much. Besides, they grow a lot of their food, and Julia is a skilled seamstress. In the past five years, they've welcomed three more children to the family. Millie is now eight. She enjoys taking care of her younger siblings, and is becoming quite the young lady. Stevie, Henry, and Abe are wild and rambunctious, but doing chores on the farm helps their energy levels stay manageable. Edward was promoted to head pastor of his church when the former head pastor retired in 1928. Edward also got married in 1929. He married a simple girl who was part of the congregation. She is young, but the two of them are very much in love. Edward and Rose haven't been blessed with children yet, but they are hoping soon to add to their family.Charlie is still in the Navy. He is stationed on a traveling naval station. He loves being in the military and seeing the world. He still has no girlfriend. Mary began going to a teacher's college in 1927. She graduated in 1929, but has not been able to find a job yet, because of the depression. She has moved back in with Robert and Lisbeth until she finds a job to sustain herself or gets married. She is not currently dating, and hopes to have at least some of a teaching career before getting married.
