SO1: Sapphire Narcissa Morana Stavros, Pureblood, Age 20
SO2: August Tobias Germain, Half-Vampire, Age 38
Just two years after she graduated from Hogwarts and right after her father's retirement, Sapphire Stavros started working in the Department of International Magical Cooperation in the Ministry of Magic. It was about the same time as the Romanian Magical Government contacted the Department because reportedly a very dangerous vampire, Lord Cruorem, had escaped the region and with the help of some followers entered Britain.
Sapphire was appointed to the case because while she lived in Slovenia, she learned the languages of several surrounding countries, including Romanian. The Department immediately called August Germain, with whom they had worked in the past.
Working with August Germain was not easy for Sapphire, to say the least. He never spoke more than necessary, and whenever he did he spoke with a hint of scorn for others.
On one of the first expedictions to find Lord Cruorem Sapphire asked him if she shouldn't have a stake, for protection. He laughed at her and said that vampire hunters didn't use such outdated methods anymore, nore any other ones she might have read about in books. And he added that, even if they did, she wouldn't be strong enough to put a toothpick through a vampire's chest, let alone a stake.
With the time they spent together on expedictions, Sapphire learned that Vampire hunters used several spells to slay vampires, such as Phoebus Lux or Talea Incidere Pectus, but that they had little effect used by most wizards - you had to be a born hunter. Her only protection was a potion made with Holy water that burned vampires when they touched her - it was enough to keep weaker vampires away, but would be little protection against Lord Cruorem or any of his closest associates.
They weren't being successful until one day, when looking around an old abbey, Sapphire and a colleague from the Ministry, the Pest Control department, Smith, were attacked by a vampire - the creature grabbed her colleague, apparantly little affected by the potion. She cast the first spell she could think of: Sectumsempra just barely scratched the vampire, but gave Smith the opportunity to escape. What she wasn't expecting was for another vampire to grab her from behind and pushed her against a nearby window. She thought she was going to fall when she felt a hand grab her arm strongly and pull her back in. August didn't let go of her while he kicked the vampire away and pointed his wand at him, finally killing him. As much as Sapphire was greatful, she couldn't concentrate on anything else other than the smoke that emerged from August's hand, still gripping her arm. When he looked at her, she was taking her hand to her forehead, realizing there was a big cut and that there was blood pouring out. She found his reaction very strange - he immediately let go of her and turned away.
After the abbey was cleared, Sapphire sat on an improvised infirmary, while a nurse took care of her cuts. She didn't say a word while August rant about "working with children" and the "bunch of amateurs" that were the Ministry. It was only when the nurse left to take care of others that she spoke:
"Your hand."
He looked at her puzzled and then at his burnt palm. He glanced back at her arm and realized what had happened.
"Stavros..."
He approached her but she pushed her chair back, gripping her wand and not taking her eyes off of him.
"I think you owe me an explanation."
He told her part of his story later, in private, the least details he could tell without her being suspicious. August also made her promise she would tell no one what she knew. After that he became a little nicer towards her.
When they finally got hold of Lord Cruorem's location, August developed a plan to enter his headquarters and capture or kill him and his followers. Being involved in the project since the beginning, Sapphire wanted to go, but he forbid her (in those words, which left her fuming), saying it was too dangerous. Without him knowing, she accompanied the Ministry Aurors to the site.
She went in with them, stunning vampires until one of August's friend hunters came to finish them. But she lost herself from the group after chasing a vampire into a dark corridor. She was trying to find her way back when a tall figure emerged from an adjacent corridor.
"Are you lost, little girl?" The vampire asked. She recognized the description of Lord Cruorem.
"Stupefy!"
The spell had no effect other than to make the vampire laugh.
Sapphire was backed away into a wall and just as he was jumping on her, she yelled: "Talea Incidere Pectus"!
The Vampire was projected back and had a big slash on his chest. He looked at her with a murderous and surprised look - but as soon as he stood and tried to attack her once more, she heard August's voice screaming "Phoebus Lux", and the corridor was flooded by a wave of bright sun light.
When the light was extinguished, only August and Sapphire remained on the corridor. The look he gave her was possibly scarrier than Lord Cruorem's. He didn't say a word, just picked her up in his arms and took her back to the Ministry officials. The fight had ended. He (literally) dumped her at a bed in the infirmary tent and left. As soon as she could convince the nurse there was nothing wrong with her, she went after him and found him leaving the Department Head's tent.
"Where are you going?" she asked.
He turned back, surprised to see her there but still angry at her.
"My work here is done." And he turned away and intended to leave, but she stopped him.
"You can't go."
August stopped but didn't turn to face her.
"You said it wouldn't work..." she continued. "But it did."
He looked at her puzzled. She told him about what happened and asked him if that meant she was a "born hunter" - the expression he had used.
For a while no one knew exactly why Sapphire Stavros had resigned from her position at the Ministry, until they discovered she was working with August Germain, the famous vampire hunter. She wrote a letter to her family, for them not to worry, and became August's apprentice (although she refers to herself as his "partner", and he often refers to her as "bloody maniac"). For a while their relationship was platonic, even though whenever asked she gave the name "Sapphire Germain", much to his dismay. It had to be her to declare herself, and for some time he strongly opposed to his own feelings, not wanting to endanger her even more and feeling she deserved to be with someone younger and with a less complicated life - but after a while, he caved in to her efforts.
(I can't believe I wrote all that. Well, at least I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it ;)
