Phoebe and Victoire were married on August 5, 2008, after two years of going out with each other. It was a beautiful, if bittersweet, day for them; while it meant that their relationship had taken an exciting new step, Phoebe's family did not attend the celebrations. The Raines could not accept that Phoebe was marrying a woman.
Phoebe grew up on a cattle ranch in Colorado, the third oldest of a family of eleven children. (Her family, in order, is: Michael Abraham, 30; Abigail Sarah, 26; Phoebe Josephine, 24; Hannah Madeline, 22; Jacob Andrew, 19; Nathaniel James and Esther Rachel, 17; Leah Juliet, 15; Christopher Moses, 13; Rebekah Naomi, 11; and Zipporah Ruth, 8.) She and her siblings are immediately recognizable as being related--they all have straight brown hair and bright brown eyes. While Phoebe loves her family, when she revealed to her mother and father that she thought girls were pretty, she found herself told that it was a sin to think so. At the age of seventeen and a half, just after graduating high school, Phoebe made a choice that would change her life (and familial relationships) forever: she told her parents unequivocally that she was leaving their home. She couldn't pretend that she wanted to marry a boy, she explained tearfully, and she was going to go and live with her Aunt Josie (for whom she was named) in Sacramento.
Victoire was born in Sacramento, California, to a mother and father who were fairly ordinary despite their nomenclatural flights of fancy. She and her younger brother, Aramis Roman Willoughby Troy, generally went by nicknames in their youth--Viki for her, Ari for him--though both use their full first names professionally. They weren't bookend children despite their close ages (Victoire is 23, Aramis is 22); Victoire's pale blonde hair and dark eyes contrasts sharply with Aramis' reddish-brown curls and blue-grey gaze. Both still live in the Sacramento area and eat lunch at the Tremblay family home each Sunday afternoon. When Victoire came out to her parents, they were not exactly pleased, but they were supportive of her feelings. Shelby and Jesse Tremblay have grown very fond of Phoebe, despite their initial misgivings, and have done their best to include her (as well as Aramis' girlfriend, Iris, of course) in their family get-togethers.
Phoebe and Victoire met at a mutual friend's party in 2006. They didn't immediately hit it off--though Phoebe was her chatty, friendly self, Victoire's tendency towards reticence made her unsure of whether they should consider going out on a real date. But a week later, thanks to Aramis' urging, she called up Phoebe and asked her if she felt like maybe getting a cup of coffee...and so a romance began to bud! Now, two years later, they have married and moved into an apartment temporarily while they look for a suitable house. Both are hoping to start a family sometime in the next few years, though it will require saving on their parts; whether they choose to adopt or use IVF and a sperm donor, it will definitely cost them some money. But despite reservations, despite a family that doesn't bother to call or write, and despite the expense, both are looking forward to the future and what it will bring them.
