Your wife's father had an affair with another woman and they had a child together, your wife's half-sister. She is now 20 years old. How did you find out? Did the wife's mother know this (if not, how is she dealing with it?)? Are you meeting her?
Elisabeth recently learned that her father had an affair with another woman more than twenty years ago, and together, they had a child. Now twenty years old, the young woman made contact with her father, wanting to meet her half-sister. Elisabeth's mother knew of the affair and of the child; however, both she and Elisabeth's father were determined to continue making their marriage work, and so, they did.
Elisabeth was told the story by her father after he had heard from his daughter. He explained to her what had happened all those years ago and how her half-sister wanted to meet her. Shocked and rather disappointed in him, she still managed to move past the pain, knowing that her mother had done so, and she had known nothing other than the happy marriage of her parents.
After talking it over with both her parents, as well as her husband, Elisabeth made the decision to meet her half-sister, figuring that she was not at fault for the mistakes her parents had made. And so, the two met for coffee and found that they got along very well. In fact, she and Elisabeth are quite close now, and Elisabeth's kids adore their aunt.
