Seb is in the US Navy, along with Katja's older brother, Johannes. Johannes introduced them through email three years ago, and they first met a year later when Johannes and Seb went on shore leave. Katja graduated from college with a dual major in criminal psychology and crime scene investigation and got a job on the Manhattan police force last year. Seb and Katja were married in a small ceremony last month.

Seb was reassigned to a stateside base two years ago, but Katja chose to remain in Manhattan for her job. She was shocked when she found out she was pregnant. She'd been working on the police force for almost four years and hadn't really put much thought into starting a family. By the time she found out it was twins, though, she was thrilled. She resigned from the police force and moved to be with Seb. When the twins were two months old, she got a job working homocide near the base. The wife of one of Seb's friends from the base watches the twins during the day.

Katja and Seb are both doing well in their careers and decided they were ready to have another child. Andy was excited to have a new baby brother, but Daniel wanted nothing to do with him. Andy has always been the happier twin, while Daniel is more prone to fits of anger. They're close, like most twins, and now that they've started preschool they're inseperable. Benjamin is staying at a daycare center and loves to play with the other toddlers. He's very adventurous and has no problem being left with the daycare workers when his parents go to work.

With Andy and Daniel in first grade and Benji in preschool, Seb and Katja were thrilled to be welcoming a new child. Then, when Katja was seven months pregnant, she was pushed into a river while at work and went into premature labor. The newborn was rushed to the NICU, and Katja spent two weeks in the hospital recovering from hypothermia and the stress of the premature labor. Heather came out of it relatively strong and healthy, but blind. The doctors said she probably would have been blind even had Katja carried to term, but Katja still felt the guilt for endangering her baby. She was depressed for several months and had to go to a psychologist. Meanwhile, Heather is a very happy little girl, and all three of her big brothers love to play with her.

Seb and Katja decided to have one last child after Heather. After a normal pregnancy, Xanthe was born the day before her due date. Katja and Seb were both relieved not to have any excitement! Andy and Daniel are now in fifth grade and Benjamin is in third. Heather is in kindergarten in a regular school and is quickly picking up Braille.
