Story:
Even though they knew the risks of a late pregnancy, Ian and Bat dreamed of being parents one more time. And so, they started trying even before Hugh was three years old. Just a few months after his birthday, Bat had to be rushed to the hospital, because she had haemorrhage. The twins were born at 27 weeks of gestation. After three weeks in the hospital - in which Ian and the kids didn't leave Bat or their new sibling's side - they went back home happy and healthy.
Even though hospital visits are monitored, the husband and children of the new mother are entitled to be in the room with her - only no nurse expected to see eight people around the bed, including three very active children (aka, Zero, Alice and Hugh) whose mottos seemed to be "Maternity hall walls are great canvases" and "Hospital food makes the best paint".
Strangely, the hardest thing to Bat and Ian during this pregnancy was to pick the names. Eva was reading a book in which the main character's name was Francesca - she talked about it with her mum and Bat just loved the name, since it reported to Ian's Italian heritage. Even if she finded it beautiful, Francesca sounded too long to use in a daily basis - especially by Hugh. Zero quickly declared she would be called Frankie - and end of subject. Bailey is to honour Bat's mother. Gerard's name brought up much, MUCH more controversy in the family. Everyone had a different opinion and nothing was ever decided. Just two days before the twins were born, Ian was going through some of his mother's old records when he found the name Gerard written somewhere and loved the sound of it - he didn't metion it to anyone, though. When Bat was on her way to the hospital she was very concerned about it. "We don't even have a name for the boy yet!", she stated. "Gerard Lucas." Ian simply stated. "What?" she asked. "Gerard Lucas, just came to my mind." Bat though for a while before answering, "It's nice."
Lucas was Bat's grandfather's name, that's why Ian thought of it. Much after the twins were born, on a visit to their house, Lucas asked, "How come you named them both after me?" Bat didn't unterstand for a few seconds, until she burst out laughing - she had completely forgotten her grandfather's middle name was Frank.
Even though Ian and Bat loved animals and had pets growing up, they always thought it wouldn't be a good idea to have a pet with the nomad life they were living. Now that they've settled down, they thought it was the right moment to give the kids the dog they had been begging for for ages. They found Tender at the local shelter and the kids instantly fell in love with him - he was mixed breed, looked somewhat like a beagle, and instantly jumped at Jonas. He was named after a character in a book. he's a good dog, even if he can be a cry baby sometimes.
