Jonas and Miriam were on vacation in Hawaii when they became proud parents to their daughter, so they decided on a Hawaiian first name. Both parents loved the name Pearl, but they eventually decided on it as a middle name. Greta was after Miriam's great-grandma Gretchen, and Jonas' mother, Margret.

The three seemed a bit lonely during the winter, so they decided to get a pet. Eventually, they decided on a squirrel, but they almost got a fish. They eventually decided on the name Solstice nn Soul, since they got her around the time of winter solstice. Ailani's favorite toy was a purple rubber duck, so they decided to name her Purple just so she would always be attatched to Ailani. Savannah would've been the name of their next child, but Jonas' sister ended up using it instead, so the couple decided to use it as a second middle name for their squirrel instead.
