Now it is 1869. As the new decade approaches, the family has much to be thankful for. Wil is looking forward to retirement in two years. He is very happy with the way his life has turned out and grateful that the farm and its land have been good to him. Mary is aging gracefully, and is looked up to by many of the young women in the area and advises them constantly.
Rosie and Saul's family is doing well. Rosie has settled into her role as a mother and now has no trouble managing her five little ones. She enjoys cooking and teaching her children. Saul is doing well with the livestock farm. He now has nearly two-hundred head of cattle. Shawn is seven. He is adventurous and boisterous, but has a good nature. He is also quite intelligent. Lena is four. She likes to play outside with Shawn and doesn't really like being indoors or doing chores with Rosie. Becky, Ellie, and Lettie are two. They are outgoing and amicable most of the time, and they get along very well. Lettie, though the youngest, is the ringleader. Ellie just likes to have a good time and her laugh is very contagious. Becky is quieter than her sisters (but not by much) and sticks by Rosie more than her sisters.
Isaiah and Betsy were priviledged to have their first child last year! Their daughter, Anna Katherine, is nearly a year old now. She is happy and constantly laughing. Isaiah has found that he is actually very good at building and crafting furniture. He enjoys it immensely, and Betsy is glad to see him happy.
Liam only has a year of med school left, then he plans to open up a practice in his hometown. Liam still has not found a wife, but he is content to be a bachelor for the time being.
Landon and Cindy are proud to welcome a little girl into their family! Madeline Grace was born two weeks ago. Maddy is very small, but very loud. Landon and Cindy haven't gotten much sleep since she was born. Landon is still working the farm and is happy that it is still producing well.
Adam still lives up in Canada. He hasn't gotten married yet, but writes that he now has a girlfriend. Her name is Sarah Moss, and the two are very serious. Adam has had his fill of fur trapping and is thinking about joining up with the Canadian justice system and trying out for the Mounted Police Force. He is a decent rider and thinks that it would be a good job for him.
