Penelope had an abortion. Why and how does the family cope? After discovering that I was pregnant again shortly after Ava's birth, I ended up deciding to get an abortion. With four young kids and a newborn, things are crazy as it is, and I couldn't even fathom adding another child to the mix. Also, our finances are strained already as it is - realistically, we couldn't afford another child at this point. I've always been pro-choice, and thought that this was the best decision for our family, but Silas was heartbroken and has hardly spoken to me for several days. The children obviously don't know what happened, but they can sense the tension, and intuitively know that something is wrong.
