A few weeks before Chase's third birthday, Evie found out she was expecting another baby. Chad was ecstatic and couldn't wait to meet his new son or daughter. But six months into the pregnancy, Evie told Chad a horrible secret: she had cheated on him, and she wasn't sure if the new baby was his or the other man's. Evie tried to explain that it was a one-time thing and that it would never happen again, but Chad was furious. How could he trust that it was really a fling if he could no longer trust his wife? That night, Chad packed a bag and moved out of the house. Evie was heartbroken and wished that she had never told her husband.
But Chad was miserable as well. He missed his boys, Brett (who he had come to think of as a son) and Chase, and he also realized that he was still desperately in love with his wife. After three weeks of living in a motel, he returned home. He told Evie that he had been there for most of her pregnancy, and even if the new baby wasn't biologically his, he would still be its father through and through. He explained that he still loved her with all his heart, but it would take a while for her to regain his trust.
Hayden Lucas arrived two months later. For his own peace of mind, Chad wanted a paternity test done (although he would be there for Hayden even if the test results showed he wasn't the father). Chad and Evie breathed a huge sigh of relief when Hayden was proved to be Chad's son. The couple are still trying to work past this whole situation and put it all behind them, but they still love each other and their family are determined to make their relationship last.
