Cecil and Annie have welcomed another son to their brood! Leopold William joins the Milton family, made up of Fred, Alice, Josie, Hector, Maxine, Louis, Olive, Lloyd, and Ada.
A little over a year after the birth of their final son, Leo, Cecil and Annie came across a young pregnant girl begging in the streets near their house. It was cold - winter was swiftly approaching - and the clothing she had wasn't very warm, so Cecil invited her into their home. It turned out that Lillie, who was fifteen at the time, had been thrown out of her home after her parents had found out she was pregnant. The older man who had gotten her pregnant and promised to marry her promptly disappeared. She had been getting by on handouts and staying in shelters the past months. Saddened by her story, the Miltons adopted Lillie, and shortly after she gave birth to her daughter, Millicent Louise. She has since become engaged to a nice young man by the name of Joel Maynard.
Fred and Alice are both married now - Fred to Rosie, and Alice to a man named Nicholas Forrest. The Forrests are an old family friend of the Miltons, and Nicholas is their oldest son. He's quite a bit older than Alice, but the two are smitten with each other and don't seem to mind. There are no children yet. Alice, however, is hoping desperately that there will be some soon. She really wants to be a mother.
Fred and Rosie have already had two children, a little over a year apart. Frederick James, Jr was born on March 30, 1919. Margot Anna was born on October 4, 1920. A third is on the way, as well.
Josie and Maxine are both engaged. Josie is engaged to a friend of Hector's - a boy named Jesse. The engagement was arranged, but very loosely. Josie strongly hinted to Annie that she would settle for no one but Jesse, and Jesse did the same to his mother. The two mothers got together and agreed that their children would make a good match. The two are eagerly counting down the days to their wedding.
Maxine, however, is not as happy in her engagment. She had always been a headstrong girl, and so Cecil and Annie arranged a marriage with Howard Nelson - a man twice her age. They thought that he would be good for Maxine; Howard was a farmer, and was strong and dependable. But Maxine does not want to marry a man who, in her opinion, is old enough to be her father, and she has been claiming that she will not marry him, no matter what her parents say. Cecil and Annie are not sure what to do about her, other than force her to go through with the marriage and hope Howard will settle her down.
