All right. Well.
First things first. Gabe and John, fraternal twins, were born. Time went by and they turned two and Maria turned five. Dave and Antonia made the decision to homeschool their kids because of the fact that they travel around. Nevertheless, for the first two years of the twins' lives, they grounded themselves in Florida to take care of the kids better. (In the meanntime, Dave worked on a documentary on urban poverty with a concentration on Cuban immigrants.) Then there was an uprising in Baguada, an island country struggling with a government that was democratic in name but fascist in nature. Being proponents of free speech themselves, the Malleys had it arranged that Antonia and the kids would stay with her family in Italy while Dave shot footage of the chaos going on in Baguada. (Antonia would write fiery articles about it.) While in Baguada, Dave, along with nearly 100 other journalists, covered the government's siege of a hotel in which there were rumored to be rebel troops. The government arrested all of the journalists (including Dave) for obstruction of justice. When queried, the police chief (?) replied, "We will free them eventually."
Antonia's response, naturally, was to freak out and write a bunch of even more inflammatory pieces. After about a month, Baguada's actions were so widely condemned by most of the civilized world that the government freed all of the prisoners and issued a formal (and sketchy) apology. Dave remained in Baguada for another three months while his passport was undergoing examination, collecting film but staying quiet, and returned to Italy as soon as he could. The documentary, which detailed the conditions before and after the arrest and the deplorable condition of the justice system and the state prisons, was received very well.
At some time I think it would be a good idea to mention that Dave has a filming partner, Nikolai Shapiro, who is a few years his junior and lives with or near the family wherever they go. He's a real sweet kid. (He went with Dave do Baguada and such. Their films are called Malley and Shapiro films--not very clever, but direct.)
Anyway Malley and Shapiro got a lot of positive attention, and their older films have experienced an upswing in popularity.

...and for the life of me, I can't find anyone who looks like how I picture Dave! To be honest, I picture him somewhat like this picture of Hugo Wolf:
(that's blonde hair there, incidentally)
and like this description of Hugo Wolf from A Nervous Splendor by Frederic Morton: "not yet thirty and just over five feet tall, Hugo Wolf was 'a dancing little powerhouse of a man, stocky, broad shouldered, thick necked like a young faun, yet so light and delicate, as graceful in posture as Puck the elf.'" Not a body type favored by stock photographers. In my mind's eye he's slightly more ugly than Wolf, with more turtle-like facial features, but Wolf is pretty well accurate.
