After Isa had turned 2 we decided that it would be a good idea to make sure that she'd have a little brother or sister. We started trying and I became pregnant right away. We were happy that it had gone so smoothly. When I went in for a check-up, the doctor shocked us by telling us that we would have triplets. Ruslan wasn't really happy with it at first; he kept saying taht there was no way that we could support them, with the job that he had. When I said that I planned to go back to work after a while, he just stared at me like I was crazy. He pointed out that there would be 4 children that needed someone to take care of them. I told him I really wanted to go back to work, and he said that he'd quit his job then to take care of them, because he wouldn't leave them with strangers.
When they were born, I was really happy. We had 2 boys and 2 girls now. Everything was perfect to me. Ruslan was relaly happy to have sons. He never said he was hoping they'd be boys, but I know he would have been disappointed if they would have been all girls. When Max, Cai and Winnie got a bot bigger I wanted to work again. Ruslan accepted that I wanted it, and we'd agreed that he would quit his job in 3 months, because then a new school year started, so I could get back to work then. But that never happened because I found out I was pregnant again (despite the measures we had taken). Ruslan was less than pleased with it and suggested for me to have an abortion. I told him that having 4 or 5 kids wouldn't make that much difference financially, and that I had no plans to abort my baby. He grudgingly accepted what I wanted under the condition that I would stay home and take care of the kids, without 'nagging' about going back to work. I was very offended by the way he said that, but I was happy that he would stop talking about abortion.
Gabriel Quinton was born on a stormy Friday and it was as if the weather knew what was coming. They had induced me, because the baby's heart rate had begun to slow down. After he was born he was very bluish and after they'd checked hi for what could be wrong, they found his heart was underdeveloped. He required immediate heart surgery if he was to survive. Those were very stressful days. The triplets and Isa were staying with my parents most of the time, to give us some time to cope with what was going on. When Gabe came out of surgery, the doctor told us it had been successful, but that he would have problems with his heart throughout his life. And it got even worse when the doctor told us he would probably not live to see old age. He couldn't tell us how old he expected Gabe to become, he said it was too early to say now.
About 5 months after he was born, Gabe got problems again with his heart and needed another surgery. He never woke up after that.
I was completely devastated and didn't really look after the other 4 kids during my grieving. Ruslan only cried at his funeral, and after that he seemed to have forgotten about Gabe altogether. He never visited his grave, he never spoke about him and he even took Gabe's picture out of his wallet. It hurt me a lot to see how he dealt (or rather didn't deal) with Gabe's death. I am happy that at least he took care of the kids. The triplets never truly understood what had happened, but Isa had been very sad for quite a long time.
I had quit taking the pill, becuase I didn't feel like sleeping with Ruslan anyway (we hardly even talked at that point) and I kept forgetting to take it the whole time. Then one night we did talk and after that we did make love. Half-way through I remembered I had stopped taking the pill and told Ruslan so. He said he didn't care and didn't bother to get up to get some protection. I let it happen.
Later we found out that I was expecting again. I felt bad about it and I was happy at the same time. When Connor was born I was really happy that he looked nothing like Gabriel had. Ruslan was happy with Connor, but he asked the doctors sevral times to check to see if he was really healthy and that nothing was wrong. The doctors kept reassuring him that Con was fine and he was as healthy as he could be. Later, after we took Con home and we were both in bed, Ruslan told me that he had never planned to be a dad of 5, well 6 actually, before the age of 26, but that he was really happy right now. I must say that that was one of the happiest moments in my life :)
