Cata was shocked when she found out she was pregnant, and it took her a while to accept it. She was exceptionally short-tempered the first few months of her pregnancy, and at one point she got sick of Daniel's attempts to console her and threw him out of the house. Frustrated and bitter, Daniel spent that night and the two following with one of his ex-girlfriends. Overwhelmed with guilt but too wary of Cata's temper to admit what he had done, Daniel returned to his wife and worked extra hard to be a better husband without coddling her.
Cata was even more shocked when she found out she was pregnant with triplets ("I'll be laid up for weeks!"), but Daniel forced himself to weather the storm of emotions she poured out on him. His life became keeping Cata calm, even to the point where he asked one of his old army buddies to take over his martial arts school until the babies were born.
After the babies were born, Cata made a swift transformation from the bitchy wife of the year into the doting mother. Daniel was, of course, incredibly relieved, and the couple settled into the bliss of new parents with three beautiful children.
Then, just two days before Cata was to go back to the police academy, Daniel found a two-week-old baby on the porch with a note reading "Daniel - this is Madeline Rose Blackwood. She's yours. I can't keep her. - Anna." Daniel pretty much went into shock, and Cata went outside to see what was wrong. She read the note, took the baby into the house, went back outside, and smacked her husband across the face. Daniel just stood there, staring at her, so she pulled him into the house and shoved him onto the couch. She demanded he tell her everything, and he mechanically did as she said. When he was done talking, Cata rolled her eyes and said she guessed one more wouldn't make a difference. By that time, Daniel was beginning to come out of his shocked state, and that comment sent him right back into it. Cata sighed and told him she was furious, but the children were more important and she couldn't care for all three of her own children without his help.
Cata and Daniel had a rough few weeks after that, but they are determined to put the past behind them and raise Madeline as if she was just another of their own. They will tell her the truth, but they don't want her to feel any more different from her brothers and sister than she has to.
