Re: You Say, You Think
This is my daughter, Meadow (named after nature's meadows).
You say: How darling.
You think: Poor child.
This is my daughter, Kenya (named for my love of Africa).
You say: Hey Kenya. What an unusual name.
You think: That's almost worse than Meadow.
This is my daughter, Poppy.
You say: How are you, Poppy?
You think: That *is* worse than Meadow. I suddenly feel the desire to secretly change this girl's birth certificate so she can have a decent name.
This is my daughter, Desert (named for my love of deserts).
You say: Interesting.
You think: Desert? Desert? Not even Savannah or Sharon? How horrid.
This is my son, River (named in reference to the Holy Spirit.)
You say: Hey River. I like your name.
You think: Yes, despite my general dislike for names like that, I do like River for a boy. This is my son, Caspian (named for the sea, and the Narnia reference).
You say: Awesome!
You think: Caspian's better than the others, I'll admit...This is my son, Genesis (named from the book in the Bible).
You say: Genesis for a boy? I like it.
You think: Sort of. It seems more feminine to me, and that's coming from someone who thinks that Ashley and Courtney and Cassidy are fantastic boy names. This is my son, Journey (named from the movie The Last Unicorn).
You say: The Last Unicorn? Never heard of it.
You think: Maybe that's a good thing. But what mother in her right mind would name her son "Journey"? I suppose it's alright. Better than Meadow or Desert, anyway. This is my son, Lyric (named for my lovee of music).
You say: Lyric on a boy. I like that, too.
You think: Thought-provoking. It's nms on either gender but I suppose it would work on a boy...
