Pearl was very surprised to find herself pregnant. She was excited to have a baby, but very sad because she knew her parents and family would not react kindly to this. She was raised in a Christian home and so knew what she did was wrong. However, Moses promised he would stay with her and help take care of the baby. Eventually he said he might marry her.

Pearl was right, her parents were deeply dissappointed when they heard the news. But they did say they would help in any way they could. Five months after Pearl told her parents, handsome little Johann Isaias Bolivar Crockett was born weighing 6 lbs. 5 oz. What a bundle of joy! Pearl and Moses just love him to death!
