Despite having been unhappy with the unexpected pregnancy of their teenagers, Mercy and Noah, the Sloanes and Carters have all remained good friends through the years and get along well with their neighbors, the Brownes and the Flanns. Simon, Anne, and Melissa all love their grandson Hayden, who is now in kindergarten and are happy that Mercy and Noah are finally engaged. They were even more happily surprised to attend two other weddings- Sage Griffin Sloane and Alissa Leanne Carter, and Verity Hope Sloane and James Grady Flann.
Both newly married couples are now expecting their first child.
