Daniel Edward Burnett was born in 1818 in New York. His father, Edward Isaac, and mother, Rachael Newmann, were both from wealthy families and were able to hire their son and six daughters a private tutor. He was trained to become a lawyer, like his father. Rebecca Charlotte Vernon was born the oldest daugher of Catherine Elmont and James Vernon, two more very affluent people. Their 3 daughters and 6 sons were all trained at a small school near their Virginia estate. Daniel and Rebecca met and married through friends of their parents. Both were interested in coming to Chicago, Illinois, Rebecca to live in a big city, and Daniel to establish himself as a lawyer in an up-and-coming town. Both hope the journey will be simple and plan to start a family soon.
