Alessa Brigida is a 16 year old girl from Italy. She has severe emotional problems because of her past. She watched as her mom was killed by her mother's boyfriend and then she was raped. She is now seven months pregnant with a baby girl. She finds it very hard to trust people but she will open up when she trusts you. She enjoys to read, watch movies, hike, and go to school. School is extremely important for her and she makes straight A's. You will often find her singing, but she is very shy about it. She has a cat that her mother gave her on her 14th birthday named Vera. The two are very close and Vera has been the only constant thing in her life recently. (The mother's boyfriend is currently serving life in prison). She speaks fluent Hungarian, English, and Polish.

Anka Janina and Liliana Olimpia are sisters from Poland. Anka is 10 and Liliana is 6. They are the youngest of eleven children, all of which had to be given up for adoption because of poverty. Anka and Liliana were lucky enough to remain together but have been given numbers in which to contact their siblings. Liliana likes to play soccer and anything dealing with nature and the outdoors. She adores and admires Anka and does everything with her, and Anka seems to love it. Anka loves to dance and sing. She also likes to watch television occasionally. Both girls love the little luxuries and have learned to take nothing for granted because of their previous poverty. They speak little English, but Alessa speaks fluent Polish and has agreed to help translate until Anka and Liliana learn English.
