This is the story about two Seattle families of very different backgrounds. The Hersheys are a very traditional Jewish family. They are part of a very large, close knit Jewish community and don't often socialize with people outside of their own culture. The Andersons are the average middle class American family in a typical suburban lifestyle. When Alicia Anderson falls sick with leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant, it is revealed that she could not be the biological daughter of Jacob and Marybeth. A intensive inquiry reveals that Alicia Anderson and Tzofia Hershey were switched at birth. Now both families must work together to try to work out what's best for the girls - to stay with their existing families or to go back to their biological parents - and what the rights and responsibilites of both sets of parents are.
