I say, "Nice, masculine name."
I think, he's Gary in a heartbeat. I hope so anyway, because otherwise I have to call him by a surname. Although it's not the most freezing cold uppity surname there is; I'm fairly accustomed to Garrett as a first name. And I think of Garrett the waiflike, hyperactive, hyperaggressive boy at my elementary school, who got suspended for fighting and cried a lot. I kind of liked him.

I'd think: The only child I've ever known named Garrett, had some problems in his preschool class, acting up, couldn't focus, was very far behind the others... so.. it's not one I associate good things with.

Kid with dirty face and runny nose. But that's because I knew one once when I was a kid, and that's what he looked like. Back then when I heard his name all I could think of was that it was an ugly name that rhymed with "carrot." Maybe that's because I didn't like him very much. Sorry to anyone who likes the name! Just personal taste.

I say: Hi, Garrett. I think: I probably would like this name, but I knew a girl with the last name Garrett(she was definitely a bad association). I always think of her when I hear it now.

Say: Wow, nice name. I knew a really cool Garrett...Think: He was really cool--got called Elmo a lot. If the name didn't sound like "garret" and wasn't as surnamey, I might consider it. I think it's fine for other people--just not me.Array
