Check this out...
Hey guys! I finally got a job that I'm really excited about! I will be waiting tables at Cardwell's At The Plaza. It is a very nice restaurant in St. Louis ' finest shopping plaza. You guys can check it out at www.cardwellsattheplaza.com. Please let me know what you think. I start Tuesday. :)Thanks,

Wow, Sarahjeanne ! Nice place. But -- your presence on the waitstaff can only enhance their already-classy image. Way to go!Both my kids have been/are in restaurant jobs, and the stress and lousy hours do have so compensations. Cardwell's looks like a place where you'll get killer tips, plus some of the contacts you can make through customers (especially regular ones) could be invaluable.Let us know at the end of next week how great yer doin! I have no doubts about it!Dave

SarahjeanneWHOA! What a place (I can't call it a joint because it's too damn classy for that)! Too bad I'm merely an impoverished college student here in Milwaukee who's limited in her "night out" to Pizza Hut or Taco Bell.Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)btw, did you follow my suggestion from that other job you were at? ;)

Thamks, Phyllis . You guys are all making me nervous! What if I trip and fall on my face at this classy place??? LOL I'm afraid I don't remember the suggestion, Phyllis , could you refresh my memory?? Thanks,
Sarahjeanne

I'll have some Sweet Corn Succotash :PThe million-dollar question nobody has addressed: > Will you have access to the 'net at work? <If not, let's all think of ways you can convince your new employers that web access for waiters could improve the restaurant's profitability. Hypnotic suggestion perhaps? Forced acupuncture of the manager?

LOL, Pavlos ! Unfortunately, I do not believe that I will have access to the web. :( But that's okay, I will always find a way to make time for my friends at BTN.Sarahjeanne

Congrats, Sarahjeanne......it looks like a great place to work! I waited tables for about four years while I was in college(at a *much* less classy place, though,LOL!) and it was really cool experience. I'm sure you'll have a great time working there--with your personality, I know you'll make an awesome server:)! Good luck and have fun...Melissa

Thanks, Melissa ! I actually waited tables a few years back, but also at a *way* less classy place. It was actually a Cracker Barrel! I stayed there about a year and a half and then moved on to a slightly nicer place called Cafe Beignet. So I have a little bit of expirence, but not in a place like Cardwell's. My first day is Tuesday, so I'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes.Sarahjeanne

I love Cracker Barrel!Although it's not exactly classy. Great food, though. And the last one I went to had a singing fish :).

The one I worked at had "Pete the Repeat Parrot". We used to get into a lot of trouble with that! Cracker Barrel is great food, I often eat there when I'm in the mood for some country cookin'. :)Sarahjeanne

The only entertainment at our Cracker Barrel up the road is the minivan-loads of gawpin Ahia and Mitchigan families comin down the Innerstate who mob the place, buy up all the country kitsch in the store while waitin for a table, and then figure they've seen some authentic Southern country culture. Hehe!Hey, SJ -- what do they put in the meatloaf to make it so dense? Lead shot? Gotta admit I DO like the food when the mood strikes...- Da.

I'm afraid that I can't be of any help, there, Davidh. I have made it a point in life to NEVER eat anyone but my mother's meatloaf. It's just one of those things that vary too much in the crap people put in it. I can tell you though that Cracker Barrel has the *best* potato soup. And I love their brown gravy because they have big onions in it. Next time you go, give one of those a try. I do believe that they only serve potato soup on Wednesday's and Saturday's, though. At least that was the schedule for the one's in St. Louis . Which is usually consistant with the others, I know the daily lunch specials are the same throughout the country. :)Sarahjeanne

I like Cracker Barrel, too, though not to the extent of some of the Northerners (commonly referred to as "Yankees" and "Snow Birds") that visit us every December through March. It's just the same food I eat every day at home to me. NOTE: Nobody get all upset 'cause of the whole "Yankee" thing. I'm no Rebel, but I do have my southern pride and I can spot a Northerner a mile away. Usually by the way their socks are pulled up knee-high and are worn with sandals.***Congrats on the new snazzy server gig you snagged, Sarahjeanne ! It looks like a real nice place. I bet you'll do great! I really admire people who wait on people in restaurants. I try to be real nice and not make a fuss over every little thing. I could never be the one serving. I'd be fine for all of five minutes, and then I'd point them in the direction of the kitchen and say "Help yourself!"

Off-topic business brainstormingThe stockmarket in Greece is more excremental than ever (-4.17% today) and I think my days as a financial guru are numbered. Gotta open a franchise of some US company in Greece. Tried Victorias Secret but was turned down. Dont think Cracker Barrel would fly either, with all due respect to 'Cole :P
Well the last time I lived in the States was in '92, so I'm a bit outta touch. What's hot over there right now?

OPEN A SUBWAY!! With this new "Jared " campaign, Subway has exploded. It's unreal, there sales have shot up in phenomenal numbers. Jared threw out the first pitch not so long agi at a Cardinal's game here in St. Louis . Is anyone else as sick of him as I am???Sarahjeanne

I wanna see Jared pitch his "fat bucket" at a Cardinal's game! You'll love this, SJ! LOL!http://www.foolbrain.com/featurestories/subwayjaredscandal.htm-- Nanaea

Does Subway own Godfather's Pizza? Coz they're always together, it seems.I looooooove Godfather's Pizza. It's slammin' pizza. No other pizza on EARTH has the right to call itself "pizza", coz Godfather's is da bomb! :)-- Nanaea

Well Nan , you obviously haven't done research on St. Louis style pizza because if you had, you would KNOW that Imo's is #1 !!! LOL I'll have to freeze one and send it to ya!SJP.S
Around here there are alot of Pizza Hut/Taco Bell's. It's kinda weird.

To use an out-of-date phrase, don't go there, Nan! Pizza ranks right up with religion and barnyard animal fetishes as topics we'd be wise to avoid on this board. It's a Pandora's Box with double cheese!!(besides, the best pizza in the freakin universe is made in a wood-fired oven by a coupla old Italian brothers in a hole-in-the-wall shop in the Preungesheim district of Frankfurt. I couldn't believe it was still there - and still as good - as I'd remembered it from when I'd lived in the neighborhood 25 years before, but it WAS!!)

Have pity! My mind is still numb from an overload of Science Fair and Liquid Plumber imagery.

I'd never even heard of Cracker Barrel. A lot of us in the NYC/Long Island area get our home cookin' fix from a chain of restaurants called Ben's Kosher Delicatessens.Gotta love that singing fish. :)-- Nanaea

Never heard of that. Cracker Barrel's are a lot more common in the south, I do believe. I was actually there when we were robbed, the guy wlaked right by me and went into the office and help up 2 of the managers. He knew exactly where to go because he had robbed something like 10 Cracker Barrel's across the country! He only got away with like $3000 I believe, but I'm not sure that he was ever caught.Sarahjeanne

Appealing menu, nice wine selection, and, of course......the COOLEST waitress will be starting work there on Tuesday! Yay! Definitely a step up in class for Cardwell's, if you ask me. (And the joint looks pretty classy to begin with.)Congratulations, Sarahjeanne ! Save your first tip for luck!-- Nanaea
