I agree with Melissa . The Campos she mentions, as well as the English "camp" are derived from the Latin "Campus" meaning a place for games, athletic practice, military drills, etc
Of course you are welcome to go by the Greek meaning: Kampos was a mythological sea monster. Hippocampus -- the sea horse -- is derived from Kampos ["hippos" (horse) + "kampos" (sea monster)].
