Nanaea / Mike C / Rest of the gang: Could the Latin "paulus" ("small, humble") be related to the Greek word "paula" meaning "rest, pause" (periphrastically hinting "smallness") ? Its a hunch, and I'm scouring Latin etymological sources trying to find some evidence to back this up. Maybe I'm grasping at staws to establish that there might something Hell-enic about my name ...

My reference source says that the Latin name of "Paulus" is connected more with the Latin word of "paucus" (from which springs the English word "paucity"), and the Greek word (and I have to transliterate the Greek letters here) "pauoos".

Indeed the words are "pauo" (to pause/to cease) and "pausis" (a pause/cessation)!!!! Yippeee, I have a prechristian name afterfall!! Thanks Nan :)
