Message: "Alyosha" - Behind the Name

I'm not sure if I posted this, but I recently got into an fight with my brother over whether or not Alyosha is a Russian pet form of Alexander.

My brother got the name from The Brothers Karamazov, so I'm even more sure that it is.

Please prove that I'm right!

Actually, I believe Alyosha the pet form of Aleksei. The common pet form of Aleksander is Sasha.

Edited to add: Alyosha is listed on BtN as Alyusha.
