What does Slaine mean?
I wanted to change my name. Because I have a love for all things Celtic I decided to search for a Celtic name. When I was looking I came across the name, Slaine. I found it rather pretty and I had always wanted a name staring with an "S" so I looked to see what it meant. But on the website I was on no information was provided other than it was a feminine name and Celtic. You did not have it listed at all. What excatly does it mean?

"Slaine" can be either a masculine or feminine name, meaning "health". It bears a similarity to the Irish toast: "Slainte!" which means "Cheers!" or "Good health to you!"
I'm not certain if it's pronounced "SHLAN-uh" or "SLAN-uh". Phyllis on this board may know, as she's a student of Irish Gaelic.

It's pronounced SLAWN-uh or SLAWN-yuh.
A couple of little footnotes: there are two ways of saying "health" in Gaelic: one is Slan (s-l-a fada [a mark that makes the "a" a long-a]-n), which is also used for "Goodbye", the other is Slainte (s-l-a fada-i-n-t-e), which, as Nanaea put it so eloquently, also means either "Cheers!" or "Health to you!".
I hope I haven't confused you with my little Gaelic lesson. :)

I knew you'd come through on that. Thanks! :)

You're welcome (or just plain "Welcome") in Irish Gaelic. ;)
