Payton for a girl
Hi. My husband, Ryan, and I are expecting our first child in March. We don't know the sex but are considering the name Payton Elise for a girl. Are there any women out there with the name Payton? Everything I have read states that Payton is a masculine name but Peyton is unisex. I prefer the first spelling. Do you think Payton is too masculine sounding? Our last name is Hill. Thanks.

I have a daughter with the same name...
I know it's way past your original post, but I have a daughter named Payton Elise born in Dec. 2000. I love it and have compliments on her name all the time. We like the unisex names.... we have another daughter named Cameron.

What is the background of the name Payton. Is is Christian or Greek origan. Any one know plese let me know.
Depending on where you look, it's Scottish for pastor, guardian.
My husband and I had out daughter in February of 2000 and choose the name Peighton. Since I have a different name, I knew that my daughter would need one also, just not as unusual as mine. Peighton just seemed like the perfect name. My husband came up with the spelling, which I thought was unusual, only to find that it really isn't. Plus, the day after Peighton was born, a lady in the next room had a child born that they also named Peyton. I guess it is more popular than we hoped, but at least the spelling isn't.
Hi! I have a daughter named Paityn Renae born in 1997. At first I was almost even embarrassed to tell people her name when they asked because they would always ask me to repeat it! But I really think the name has become even more mainstream in 3 years time, and I love her name. I like the spelling I chose because I think it looks more feminine.

Our daughter was born January 8, 2000 and we named her Paityn Marit. I too chose the different spelling as I thought it was more feminine. I did not know of any other girls with the name and really liked it!!!
I love that name for a girl and personally like the spelling - Peyton. Trying writing it down with different spellings to see which one you like. Since it's unisex I'd pick a feminine middle name.
Personally I HATE the name Payton but really like Elise. They're so many pretty names out there for girls, but in my opinion Payton is not one of them.
Well opinions are like assholes- everyone has one and most of them are full of shit. My daughter's name is Payton. I'm just glad I didn't pick some boring, stupid-ass name like CARRIE.
More info than you'll ever want on Payton
Hi!
According to the Social Security Administration, the name Payton was given to 1382 girls in 1999, and 938 boys. For both sexes, Payton is the second most popular spelling, with Peyton being the first.
For girls, the most popular spellings were (in order of popularity):
Peyton, Payton, Peighton, Paiton and Paityn
For boys: Peyton, Payton, Payden, Payten
Altogether, with all the spellings, Payton et. al. ranked 124 in popularity for girls, and 151 for boys.
So basically, it's pretty unisex no matter what you do. The way that trends are moving, I'm sure that Peyton will be compeltely a girls' name in a few years anyway, like Kelly, Evelyn and Ashley!

Sez you. Personally, I know two teenage guys named Ashley and two named Kelly, but no girls by either name (obviously I don't get out much). Then there's Evelyn Waugh, who would've gotten beaten up in any bar around here if he wasn't dead already...
Paityn? Arrgh.

I don't like the name, personally, but I don't think it sounds too masculine. I assumed it was a girl's name, not having heard of it before (from England) when I read the title.
I love the name and do not think it is too masculine.
Hey, i love the name Payton spelt any way, and Payton Elise is REAL cute.
