ArchivesDoes anyone know the meaning of this name?
My mother found the name in a Norwegian book and named me Lindis ....it is a female name....I've tried looking to see what it means but I can't find anything.....I would be happy if someone knew the meaning. :)

Linden, as in the lime tree, perhaps?
Or snake, as in Belinda? (Betlindis originally)
Or river? Lindisfarne is River-Land, and it was probably not so much the name of a river, originally, as a Celtic word for river or stream.
Probably not the Spanish for pretty!

I can't find a definitive meaning, but it seems likely that Lindis is composed of the Germanic name element linde meaning "soft, tender" and the Old Norse name element dis meaning "goddess".
