Lummus - meaning, native region, history?
My grandfather's middle name was Lummus. We have a mainly Scottish/German background, but I couldn't find anything close. It could be of a different origin than the ones I checked. After a little more research I found that it is also a surname (rare) in the south U.S., which is where that side of my family is from. Any information or help with root meanings would be greatly appreciated.

according to this it's English. I would guess the name came from the surname. Maybe his parents included his mothers maiden name? (as with my grandfather)
