Smilla/ Smillark
Hello everybody,
I'm trying to understand what female name Smilla/Smillark means.
This name appeared in "Smilla's Sense of Snow" by Peter Hoeg. In the book there is explanation that full name is Smillark.
Name got Greenlandic origin.
Thanks for your help!

Wow, that was really interesting!
Thank you very much for your help
Smilla is derived from the Danish word "smil", which means "smile". It's combined with the Greenlandic Inuit name Millaraq, which, after what I read, means "she who hums to herself". Her real name is Smillaraq.
