Living with the name
I am 47 years old and all of my life I've had to deal with people calling me all kinds of names, but my own.... For example, my name is pronounced "C O Mara"....but, I get called "See you tomorrow" or "Sickum Sira" or " X", just to name a few. When I say my name to others, I get strange looks, or some people say " That's a weird name"; of course those folks could have kept that comment to themselves. Others say that my name is beautiful and unique. My mother named me after a spanish singer, Xiomara Alfaro. My brother liked my name so much, he named his daughter Xiomara...Bottom line is, I love my name and even if no one else does, I believe that it is an unique and strong name. I was told, but have not verified it to this day, that my name comes from Mayan Indians in Guatemala and it means " Indian Princess", now that's got to mean something!!

Thanks for your response...You're right, alot of people do not understand certain things, therefore they rebel; that's their way of being afraid for what they don't understand...I have heard of alot of "uncommon" names, but never will I say that a name is weird or stupid...I figure each name has a meaning and the person that named them had a purpose for choosing that name. Thanks again for your "positive and uplifting" response!
Xiomara, please put your *own* username in the 'Name' box
The name box is for your username, not for the name of the person you're replying to. You must ALWAYS put the same name in the 'Name' box.
Please remember this from now on.
