For a male...Origin (ethnicity) of this first name? Is it short for something?

My guess would be that tacz is Polish (or of a language related to Polish)in origin. When "tacz" is a part of a larger Polish word, it seems to have a meaning similiar to "round" or "circle" or "encircling." Sorry I couldn't be of more definitive help.

And...I used to know a guy whose last name was Taczy (pronounced "taxi").
