Trevelyan is medieval in origin, but it's Cornish (extreme SW England), not French. It derives from a placename in Cornwall, given as "Trevelien" in the "Domesday Book" (pre-1100), and originally means "homestead or settlement (Cornish "tref") of a man named Elian".
