Danish???
in reply to a message by Andy
I'm Danish and there's no Solmer here. Just checked both boys and girls to be absolutely sure. Maybe as a last name, but I have not heard about it as a first name ever.
It could be one of these really old, ancient forgotten ones, that is nowhere to be found on official name lists. That can only be my safest bet.

I'm sorry, but I don't know any Danish. So I was just guessing, when I ran through some google hits. So maybe you can check these two:

Thank you!

Got your solution...
Solmer is a last name. I can conclude that by looking at these web sites. The first is from a library and the last is an adress list from some cattle show.

those are probably surnames. i noticed when searching at Google.com that Solmer is a surname and sometimes it was a middlename, well, it looks like it's a middle name, but some Danish people have two surnames, both their mother's and their father's. I don't know why and if it is a heritage from the old days, but i found that out when looking for the firstname Lie which i saw in an actor's name. Then, i looked at imdb.com and saw that it was not the actor's middle name but his mother's surname and this man was a Dane, so i guess in this case Solmer is the mother's surname of the bearer.
About the two last names...
That is right some here has two last names. Either it's one parents whole last name, or if the parents aren't married, the kids get both their mother's and their fathers last names. It will mostly be the case if the parents can't agree on which last name the kid should have. It's not a heritage from old days.
About Lie... Was you looking at Nikolaj Lie Kaas IMDb profile? If it was, then it is his mother's last name. And he is all through Dane and one of our most beloved and success-full actors of this day.
