I know the name appears in the Bible, he was an istructor to the Apostle Paul. Could somebody tell me the meaning of the name?
Thanks.

According to Rev. Roswell D. Hitchcock who wrote his now-famous Bible Names Dictionary back in the 19th century, "Gamaliel" means either "recompense of God" or "camel of God".

Checked www.livingweb.com/library/projects/hitchcock/n.htm but - as I suspected - Hitchcock was probably too stumped with Nanaea :)
I think the good Reverend Hitchcock was a Protestant Christian , and the second book of the Maccabees (in which my namesake appears) most likely wouldn't have been in his bible. It appears in the Jewish Tanakh, however -- and I think (but I'm not sure) in Roman Catholic bibles. Is it in Greek Orthodox bibles, too?
BTW, I checked for my name, too, on that website. Just in case. :)
