where does my name come from??
I have been trying to find out where my name came from. It is not short for Henriette. I did find " Hinny" in old scottish/irish writings meaning " little girl" . I just wondered if anyone has an idea????

In Sweden, Henny is an old-fashioned name derived from Henrietta. It's not very common, but not that rare either. That's the only situation in which I've heard Henny.

In the North-East of England, hinny is an endearment, not a name - like honey, of which it's a form. And in southern Scotland I've heard what I take to be the same word, shortened: hen. So if there's some famiy connection to that part of the world, it looks as if someone took the word and made it a name. Happens all the time ...
