Curious about my daughter's name.... Shallan *Ü*
I heard the name once before and my husband's last name is Irish, so Shallan sounded like a good combination. Don't know much else except that it sounds Irish and most people try to spell it Shallon. I've never found her name in any books that gives you meanings of people's names. I guess the closest name to it would be Shannon.
Thanks,
Janice

I dunno... "Shallan" looks like one of those created names to me, although maybe it does have some Celtic background to it. Maybe Daividh or Phyllis might know, as they're both really into the Celtic stuff.
I did discover that a "shallon", however, is a species of evergreen shrub discovered by Lewis and Clark on their famous expedition into the wilds of North America. The Indians' name for the fruit of this shrub was "salal", and Lewis changed that word to "shallon" to refer to the entire plant.
Here's where you can see a picture of the shrub:

Since my usual source of info is oot, I'll see if a new contact may know (Seosai is from the Emerald Isle, too, and a Gaelic speaker herself).
Ray Mac Manus is also oot (another contact), but I won't knock on his e-mail unless it was vitally important (international security rests on an answer). :D
Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)
PS (OT): You can catch a glimpse of us at http://www.irishmilwaukee.com (I'm the one on page 6, sleeveless).

Umm sleeveless?
It may be me but I think to two sleeveless people
1. a woman with long red(?) hair
2. a woman with long blond hair
If I may be allowed to act nosy I would like ask which of then is you?
