French form of Daphne?

My cousin is about to have a baby girl and she has no named picked out. We recently had a baby shower for her and we talked about names and how everyone's parents come up with their name. Her friend Daphne said that her mother was considering naming her Danyae (sp?) pron DAN-yay which is supposedly the French form of Daphne. So now my cousin is thinking of using it.

I can't seem to fiind this name anywhere and I'm not even sure if it's an acutal name. And if it is I would like to find the correct spelling because my cousin is one of those fans of the Kri8tyve spellings. So has anyone ever heard of this name? If so how do you spell it and are we pronouncing it correctly?

There is the name Danya prn DAHN-yah. It is Ukranian, from Bogdana: "God's gift."

I knew a French girl named Daphne, in French it's just pronounced with the weight on the end. Instead of DAF-nee it's Daf-NÉ (Daf-NAY). This girl pronounced it Daf-NEE, another option. I'm not sure if this is what you wanted, but anyways. I assume that if there were a different, more "French" version that's what she would have been named. As a bilingual person I don't think DAN-yay or any other similar name comes from French because I have difficulty trying to figure out how you would say it in French without it sounding like Danny.

According to La cote des prenoms en 2004, the French form of Daphne is Daphné. I doubt if it would be pronounced "DAN-yay". Almost all French names are accented on the last syllable.

Danae, sometimes with a couple of dots on the e to make it clear that it's a separate syllable ... it's pronounced DA-na-ee, so if your cousin uses it I really, really hope she doesn't go for DAN-yay! As for Daphne, it is used in French as it is in English as far as I know ... just taken directly from the ancient Greek.
