This is a guess, as you don't give us any info on where you found this name, the language, the approximate date etc.
Could be it's based on the word for an early-morning church service - Matins. There was a Roman goddess called Matutina, if I remember correctly, who was in charge of sunrise, so Matina could be a new way of naming a girl born then ... like Dawn.
Or it could equally be someone's attempt at feminising Matthew. Anything more that you could tell us woule help.

Thank you for the response, it is actually my best friends name, she is greek,I asked her today if that was her name in greek and that was it....not more to go with . I am sorry about the lack of info.
