Part of the reason one should take this with a grain of salt is that it isn't clear from the newspaper report whether they actually counted separate criminals or just separate police reports. If it's the latter, one person with multiple arrests could really skew the statistics.

I would guess it's probably a question of social class, at least in the female list. The men, as you might expect, could be anything from vagrants to minor royalty! Except for Lee, who is more likely to come from lower down the social ladder - but don't tell my nephew!
