Hi!
I found this name in a name book but wasn't able to find a confirmation anywhere else:
Franja: Polish variant form of Francisca. Often spelled Frania.
Does anybody know if that's true? Any other ideas? Could it be a Croatian female form of Franjo? Thank you!

It's never spelled Franja. It's always spelled Frania.
It's not a variant of Franciszka - it's its pet form.

No problem. And as a tid bit a "Frania" is an old type of washing machine. So that's what the name is connotated with.
