My sister-in-law and life long friend is 6 months pregnant, and she was thinking of the name Azalia for a girl. If anyone could please tell me the origin or meaning of the name we would appreciate it

First off, where did she first hear this name? What was the ethnicity of the bearer (if there is one)? Did she create this name on her own?
These questions will help us figure out where this name came from.

Based on sound and spelling, I would assume that it was a variant of the flower name Azalea, which according to this site is ultimately derived from the Greek azaleos, meaning "dry".
