Pomme, in French, is prounounced in different ways among the variety of dialects. In some countries where French is the common language it is pronounced as the pom in pom-pom, and in others it is pronounced as the word poem is pronounced. It is just as the american word Aunt, which can be pronounced "Ant" or "Awnt". It is just a minor technicality, but if your child is planning on living their life mostly in the United States, I would say that the word Pomme would be pronounced as the pom in pom-pom, as that is how it is taught to students of French (well, in the majority of cases anyway)who were born speaking English.
Like the o in pom-pom
I've been learning French for 12 years, including university level. And I have no trouble getting by in France.

I always thought Pomme sounded exactly like the pom in "pom-pom", but I could be wrong.
In my French class, that's how we prn it, so I would definitely prn "Pomme" as "pom."

(with different instructors) pronounced it like the o in pom-pom.
I wanna go to the crappy town where I'm a hero.

I'm not techincally French, but in Ontario you take French from Grade 1 (about age six) until Grade 9 (about 14), and my grandmother's first language is French (and she tends to speak to me in French rather than English). It's how I've always heard and said it, but I'm bad with spelling things phonetically. Saying it as in 'pom-pom' sounds VERY anglicized to me. I can use a proper French accent, and in the accent it sounds more like the 'o' in poem, but not stressed as much.
Does 'pom-pom' rhyme with Mom? Because that's how I'm saying it.
