Is it like "tear-nee" or "turn-nee" or am I just completely off?

Closer to Tear-nee, but it comes from the Irish Ó Tiarnaigh, so you might also hear it as something like Cheer-nee.

And that's "tear" as in "cried a tear", not "tear up the paper".

TEER vs. TAYRETear in your eye is TEER. Rhymes with ear, or beer.Tear the paper is TAYRE, like, it rhymes with hair, or hare, or fair or mare.:-DEdit: I had TAHRE insteaad of TAYRE. TARE would also be right... I dunno! Go by the rhymes I listed!
