Good Scottish name! It's totally the same as Ian. I have an Uncle Ian and an Uncle Iain. They're btoh said the same way but it's so hard to remember which one is which when I'm writing cards, ect!

I know an Iain and he says it exactly the same as Ian, though this may be incorrect

No, it's said just like Ian. It's quite a common spelling variation.
