I can comment thus: My personal interest in Benedict as a favorite is quite longstanding, but even my own fond feeling for it grew perceptibly when Cardinal Ratzinger became Pope (I am Catholic). In short, while I always liked it a lot, now I like it even more because of him. I have heard considerable chatter amongst American Catholics (and the smaller subgroup, American Catholic namenerds) to that effect as well. However, I am also a Labor and Delivery nurse in a fairly heavily Catholic part of Texas, and I have yet to see its actual use on newborns, despite increased discussion about its merits. That may yet come. His papacy is young, if he is not.
