Taze - and some rather unusual puritan names !!!

I'm quite sure that 'Taze' comes from the name 'Tace'. This is a 16th century name used by the puritans / presbyterians. It is a so called 'Virtue Name', used to remind it's bearer of the godly vitues s/he should aim at. More examples still it use today are Faith, Hope, Glory, Prudence, Joy, Charity, Honour, Amity, Felicity or Justice. But there were also some rather unusual names like Do-good, God-help, Hate-evil, Sin-deny, Have-mercy or even 'If-Christ-had-not-died-for-thee-though-hadst-been-damned Barbone'(unfortunately the person named like, "whose morals were not of the best" according to the sources, was known to most people as Damned Barebone!!!) LOL

...oh, I almost forgot: Tace is derived from the latin 'tacere', to be silent...

I was under the impression that "Taze" had started out as a nickname, taken from the old Warner Bros. cartoon character "Tasmanian Devil". I know there's a professional wrestler who calls himself "Taze", and that's to draw in allusion to the whirlwind destructiveness of the Tasmanian Devil character.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to discover that parents have started naming their sons "Taze" these days.
